Senior Applied Research Engineer - AI & Optimization
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Applied Research Engineer to join our AI & Optimization Team at akeno. This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative solutions that impact supply chain performance. As a Senior Applied Research Engineer, you will play a crucial role in developing algorithms and models that enhance our application’s capabilities. You will be working in a collaborative environment where your expertise will be valued and utilized to its fullest potential.
What You'll Do
- Build heuristic and rule-based algorithms enabling high-speed solution discovery.
- Develop mathematical solvers based on Google's OR-Tools.
- Maintain our simulation engine to evaluate solutions and schedules.
- Work on our core data model (graphs) representing our solution states.
- Implement meta-optimizations to enhance the composition and parameters of heuristic solvers.
- Optionally collaborate on ML implementations for pattern recognition using GNNs and tree classifiers.
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge and expertise in coding with Python.
- Senior-level coding capability in at least Rust or Golang.
- Strong mathematical understanding of optimization for scheduling problems.
- Profound experience working with graph data.
- Experience in building long-term sustainable software end-to-end.
- Ability to work independently on subtopics and in large, complex codebases.
Nice to Have
- Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries.
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
- Previous experience in a research or academic setting.
