Research Data Scientist - Advanced Analytics Solutions
About the Role
Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Research Data Scientist to work in our Data Twin Frameworks department. This role is pivotal in applying advanced analytics to derive insights from large datasets. As a Research Data Scientist, you will work in a collaborative environment, leveraging mathematics, statistics, and computer science to solve complex scientific problems. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on a 9x80 schedule, providing every other Friday off, which enhances work-life balance.
What You'll Do
- Analyze data to generate results that meet data analytics, visualization, and modeling needs across various computational architectures.
- Design, develop, and test algorithms and software-based analytical tools, utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers to tackle challenging projects.
- Publish research findings in refereed publications and conference proceedings.
- Develop and maintain software applications, including 3D visualization tools and web APIs.
- Communicate data quality issues effectively and design repeatable data processing procedures.
- Work with domain experts to identify key data features and develop output metrics that describe system behavior.
- Ensure adherence to INL policies regarding software development and cybersecurity.
Requirements
- Master's degree in data science, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or related field with at least 2 years of experience, or a PhD with 2 years of experience.
- Experience in data science, data analysis, and software development using Python, C#, Java, or C++.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.
- Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and analytics.
- Proficiency in tools such as SciPy, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Natural Language Processing techniques.
Nice to Have
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Understanding of graph databases and relational databases.
- Knowledge of data storage and processing methodologies.
