About the Role

Join the City of Brooklyn Center as a Community Service Officer (CSO) and make a difference in your community! This part-time role offers the chance to serve the public while working alongside a dedicated team in the Police Department. As a Community Service Officer, you will provide essential support services across various divisions of the department, contributing to the safety and well-being of the city. This is a non-sworn, uniformed position that requires working two 12-hour shifts per week.

What You'll Do

  • Enforce city ordinances related to parking, bicycles, and signs, ensuring compliance with established policies.
  • Investigate abandoned vehicles and respond to zoning, trash, and snow complaints from the public.
  • Assist motorists and citizens with lockouts or house checks, providing valuable support in emergencies.
  • Handle animal control functions, responding to complaints about barking dogs and enforcing related ordinances.
  • Perform duties relevant to booking both adult and juvenile prisoners, including fingerprinting and lodging.
  • Monitor and attend to the needs of prisoners, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports of activities, maintaining accurate daily logs as per department policy.
  • Assist officers and fire department personnel with traffic direction and control during emergencies.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of appointment.
  • Valid Minnesota Driver's License is required.
  • Working knowledge of computers is essential.
  • Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Experience in law enforcement or security is desirable.
  • Ability to communicate in languages other than English is a plus.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in dealing with the public and providing excellent customer service.
  • Education in or actively enrolled in an accredited law enforcement program.
  • Grade Point Average of 3.0 or above.
  • Completion of an online application is required; no attachments are allowed.
