Senior Acquisitions Director - Global Film Strategy

About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Acquisitions Director to join MUBI's global team. This role is pivotal in shaping our film acquisition strategy and ensuring that great cinema is accessible to everyone, everywhere. As a Senior Acquisitions Director, you will lead the day-to-day operations of sourcing, evaluating, and securing independent films that resonate with our mission. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with a passionate team dedicated to championing specialty cinema and auteur filmmakers.

What You'll Do

• Scout, track, and evaluate independent films, art house content, and commercial indie projects for theatrical distribution.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the global theatrical independent film landscape, including emerging filmmakers and genre trends.
• Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of acquisition opportunities targeting 12-18 titles per year.
• Represent MUBI at major film festivals and markets, including Sundance, Berlin, Cannes, and Toronto.
• Build and maintain relationships with filmmakers, sales agents, and international distributors to ensure early access to compelling content.
• Lead negotiations for acquisition deals, working closely with Legal, Business Affairs, and Finance teams.
• Evaluate financial models and distribution strategies to inform acquisition recommendations.
• Present comprehensive acquisition recommendations to senior leadership with supporting analysis and rationale.

Requirements

• 8-12+ years of experience in film acquisitions, with at least 4-6 years focused on acquisitions.
• Proven track record of successfully identifying and closing film acquisition deals.
• Established network of relationships with key industry stakeholders.
• Deep knowledge of the independent film ecosystem and festival circuits.
• Experience leading negotiations for complex licensing agreements.
• Comprehensive understanding of film finance and distribution models.
• Exceptional eye for talent and storytelling.
• Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
