About the Role

Flinders University is seeking a distinguished Associate Professor in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to provide leadership and vision in advancing research excellence. This unique opportunity allows you to apply cutting-edge research to national priority areas, including advanced manufacturing and sustainable energy systems. As an Associate Professor in AI and Machine Learning, you will play a key role in shaping the strategic research direction of the College, attracting substantial external funding, and mentoring early and mid-career researchers.

What You'll Do

  • Lead innovative research in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, contributing to Flinders' reputation as a global leader.
  • Engage with industry, government, and stakeholders to foster collaborations and enhance research impact.
  • Mentor and supervise Higher Degree Research students and early/mid-career researchers.
  • Attract external funding to support research initiatives and programs.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the College of Science and Engineering.

Requirements

  • A PhD or equivalent in AI, ML, or a closely related discipline.
  • Outstanding research track record with high-quality publications and competitive grant success.
  • Experience in strategic leadership and management of research programs.
  • Strong history of international collaboration in AI/ML research.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property and ethical research practices.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in mentoring diverse teams and fostering inclusive research environments.
  • Engagement with Indigenous communities in research.
  • Experience with research commercialization.

  • Salary range of AU$165,810 - $182,419 pa plus 17% superannuation.
