About the Role

We are seeking a Vice President of Building Engineering to join our team at Redwood Construction. This role is pivotal for ensuring the optimal performance of all internal and external building systems across our apartment communities. As a Vice President of Building Engineering, you will leverage your extensive experience to lead our engineering department, focusing on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and elevator systems. This position offers a competitive salary range of $160K–$200K, based on experience, and the opportunity to earn bonuses.

What You'll Do

  • Provide strategic leadership and technical oversight for all building engineering projects.
  • Manage the engineering department’s budget, including capital expenditures and resource allocation.
  • Oversee project management, ensuring cost-effective execution of capital improvement and modernization projects.
  • Conduct building system inspections and maintain accurate documentation to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Actively support on-site teams with technical engineering guidance regarding building systems and equipment.
  • Participate in community evaluations to assess the condition of physical assets and recommend improvements.
  • Be on-call 24/7 for property-related emergencies, ensuring swift response to any issues.
  • Foster team development and drive continuous process improvement within the engineering department.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in building systems project management, with a focus on multifamily or hospitality sectors.
  • Strong creative, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • Advanced expertise in two or more trades such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire/life safety, or elevators.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred; EPA Universal Certification required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management required.
  • Experience with energy management systems and indoor air quality mitigation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work extended hours as needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with project management tools like Yardi and Asana.

Nice to Have

  • Certifications in HVAC Excellence or similar.
  • Experience with building automation systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices.
