About the Role

We are looking for a Staff Software Developer (Kotlin Libraries) to join our team remotely. In this role, you will help shape the future of the Kotlin ecosystem by creating and maintaining foundational libraries for Kotlin core primitives that are utilized by hundreds of thousands of developers worldwide. As a Staff Software Developer (Kotlin Libraries), you will become an expert in specific domains of computer science and software engineering, contributing to the design of Kotlin APIs and participating in the creation of standard Kotlin tools, specifications, and language features.

What You'll Do

• Create and maintain foundational libraries for Kotlin core primitives.
• Become an expert in specific domains of computer science and software engineering.
• Participate in a design committee that shapes the Kotlin API.
• Contribute to the development of standard Kotlin tools and specifications.
• Write design documents for complex systems, providing strong reasoning behind each trade-off and technical decision.
• Engage in performance engineering and API design.

Requirements

• Proven experience in JVM development, with a deep understanding of the Java standard library.
• Strong understanding of the domain you’ve been working with.
• Ability to write comprehensive design documents for complex systems.
• Experience in performance engineering or API design.
• Willingness to explore complex topics, such as Unicode standards and timezone implementations.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Kotlin and its ecosystem.
• Familiarity with performance optimization techniques.
• Previous contributions to open-source projects.
