About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Aboriginal Advisor to join our team at EPA Victoria. This is a unique opportunity for a dedicated professional to work remotely while providing strategic leadership and support to build meaningful relationships with Traditional Owner groups and Aboriginal communities. As a Senior Aboriginal Advisor, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our engagement with First Nations peoples and ensuring that our initiatives align with the values and needs of Aboriginal Victorians.

What You'll Do

  • Provide strategic advice to effectively build relationships and partnerships with Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians.
  • Identify emerging complex or highly sensitive issues, risks, and trends impacting the successful achievement of EPA’s strategic priorities.
  • Maintain strong networks and relationships across state and local government agencies, businesses, and community organizations.
  • Deliver high-quality support and engagement across EPA to foster partnerships with Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians.
  • Support the EPA’s capacity as a culturally safe and inclusive organization.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated senior-level experience working effectively with diverse Traditional Owner groups and Aboriginal Victorians.
  • Strong understanding of Victorian Aboriginal cultures and societies, including Traditional Owner groups.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulation as it relates to pollution and waste is desirable.
  • Ability to ensure engagement approaches are culturally informed and inclusive.
  • Proven record of developing and executing strategic initiatives that build and maintain respectful relationships.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in environmental policy development.
  • Familiarity with community engagement frameworks.
  • Previous roles in government or non-profit organizations focused on Aboriginal affairs.
