About the Role

We are seeking a Payroll & Finance Transformation Analyst - Remote to join our dynamic team at Oyster. This role is pivotal in automating and scaling multi-country payroll processes. You will work with real payroll data, document complex logic, and collaborate with Finance, Payroll, Product, and Engineering teams to drive full automation.

What You'll Do

  • Align payroll calculations with accounting, tax, and compliance requirements.
  • Process and validate structured input data (salary, bonuses, leave) to ensure accurate payroll runs.
  • Inspect and analyze payroll data, flagging and escalating any inconsistencies.
  • Define and document operational requirements for technical implementation.
  • Map product features to payroll workflows, ensuring seamless integration.
  • Translate manual payroll logic into structured rules that can be automated.
  • Perform user testing of new features to ensure operational edge cases are covered.
  • Support the documentation and improvement of payroll workflows and edge cases.
  • Identify repetitive tasks that could be standardized or automated.
  • Contribute to the creation of scalable logic and templates for multi-country payroll.
  • Use Alteryx to automate payroll workflows, reduce manual work, and improve data accuracy.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders (Finance, Product, Engineering, Ops).
  • Help track open items, missing data, or blockers across cross-functional teams.
  • Take ownership of smaller deliverables and follow up with the right people to resolve issues.
  • Be proactive, organized, and eager to contribute to a high-performing, globally distributed team.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or data roles, focusing on automating manual processes.
  • Hands-on experience with data transformation tools like Alteryx or similar automation platforms.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems and how payroll intersects with accounting, tax, and compliance.
  • Strong understanding of core financial and payroll concepts (e.g., gross vs. net, statutory deductions, benefits).
  • Experience working in fast-paced, innovative environments.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Looker, or other BI tools.
  • Experience with process mapping and workflow optimization.
  • Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
  • Educational background in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Data (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets; familiarity with structured data is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and follow through on deadlines.
