Payroll & Finance Transformation Analyst - Remote
About the Role
We are seeking a Payroll & Finance Transformation Analyst - Remote to join our dynamic team at Oyster. This role is pivotal in automating and scaling multi-country payroll processes. You will work with real payroll data, document complex logic, and collaborate with Finance, Payroll, Product, and Engineering teams to drive full automation.
What You'll Do
- Align payroll calculations with accounting, tax, and compliance requirements.
- Process and validate structured input data (salary, bonuses, leave) to ensure accurate payroll runs.
- Inspect and analyze payroll data, flagging and escalating any inconsistencies.
- Define and document operational requirements for technical implementation.
- Map product features to payroll workflows, ensuring seamless integration.
- Translate manual payroll logic into structured rules that can be automated.
- Perform user testing of new features to ensure operational edge cases are covered.
- Support the documentation and improvement of payroll workflows and edge cases.
- Identify repetitive tasks that could be standardized or automated.
- Contribute to the creation of scalable logic and templates for multi-country payroll.
- Use Alteryx to automate payroll workflows, reduce manual work, and improve data accuracy.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders (Finance, Product, Engineering, Ops).
- Help track open items, missing data, or blockers across cross-functional teams.
- Take ownership of smaller deliverables and follow up with the right people to resolve issues.
- Be proactive, organized, and eager to contribute to a high-performing, globally distributed team.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or data roles, focusing on automating manual processes.
- Hands-on experience with data transformation tools like Alteryx or similar automation platforms.
- Familiarity with payroll systems and how payroll intersects with accounting, tax, and compliance.
- Strong understanding of core financial and payroll concepts (e.g., gross vs. net, statutory deductions, benefits).
- Experience working in fast-paced, innovative environments.
- Proficiency in SQL, Looker, or other BI tools.
- Experience with process mapping and workflow optimization.
- Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
- Educational background in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Data (or equivalent practical experience).
- Strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets; familiarity with structured data is a plus.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and follow through on deadlines.
