Part-Time Payroll Specialist (US) - Flexible Remote Role

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Payroll Specialist (US) remote to join our team at Plan International. This part-time role is crucial for delivering a high-quality payroll service for our International Assignee (IA) population, which includes approximately 150 employees across multiple countries. If you have a strong background in US payroll legislation and IRS compliance, we want to hear from you!

What You'll Do

  • Process monthly payroll for around 150 international assignees using US ADP, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal policies and US federal payroll requirements.
  • Collate, validate, and reconcile payroll data; prepare payroll outputs and distribute required reports.
  • Own and maintain the monthly Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) data.
  • Respond to employee and provider payroll queries promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of current US payroll and IRS legislation.
  • Liaise directly with the IRS to resolve payroll or filing issues.
  • Support internal and external audits, including Form 990 and donor/insurance audits.
  • Collaborate with our payroll software provider (ADP) to troubleshoot and resolve system issues.

Requirements

  • Payroll qualification / CIPP Membership.
  • US payroll experience, especially using ADP.
  • Strong understanding of US federal compensation and benefits rules.
  • Confident working independently and making informed decisions.
  • Numerate with accurate data input and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong Excel skills and working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Experience with payroll control account reconciliations.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a nonprofit or international organization.
  • Familiarity with international payroll processes.
