About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Library Technical Assistant II to join the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. This remote position offers an exciting opportunity to engage with patrons and support the library's mission of providing access to extensive collections in dance, film, music, recorded sound, and theatre. As a Library Technical Assistant II, you will play a crucial role in welcoming visitors and ensuring they have a positive experience at our library.

What You'll Do

  • Provide circulation and reference services to library patrons of all ages using various resources.
  • Answer questions from the public in person, over the telephone, and electronically.
  • Assist in collection maintenance, reserves, and opening/closing procedures.
  • Perform community outreach to promote library services and increase public participation.
  • Process incoming library materials and assist in planning collection maintenance projects.
  • Instruct patrons on using the Internet, computer applications, and other library services.
  • Ensure patrons adhere to library policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Demonstrated work experience in a library or customer-focused organization.
  • Strong public service experience with the ability to work well with diverse patrons.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in computer and technology skills, including Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a public research library setting.
  • Knowledge of library policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lift/move/push up to 40 lbs.

What We Offer

  • A competitive salary of $46,000 per year.
  • 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday, with evening shifts until 8 PM and rotating Saturday shifts.
