Lead PHP Developer - API Focus (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Lead PHP Developer to join our dynamic team. This remote position focuses on developing high-performance, scalable PHP-based backend services and APIs, ensuring that we meet the needs of our users effectively.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performing PHP-based backend services and APIs.
  • Ensure code quality through testing, code reviews, and observability practices to deliver stable releases.
  • Analyze and optimize application performance and database queries to enhance efficiency.
  • Actively participate in architectural and design decisions to ensure system maintainability and resilience.
  • Collaborate closely within an agile team, sharing knowledge and supporting less experienced colleagues.

Requirements

  • Completed degree in (Business) Computer Science or Information Technology, or equivalent technical training with extensive development experience.
  • Several years of experience in developing complex system landscapes.
  • Strong knowledge of relational and multimodal databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server) with a focus on data modeling and performance.
  • Experience with testing strategies, CI/CD processes, and observability concepts and tools like OpenTelemetry.
  • Extensive PHP expertise in developing modern backend and frontend systems, as well as experience with message brokers like Kafka.
  • Fluent in both German and English.
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive attitude towards collaboration.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in cloud environments and microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
  • Knowledge of frontend technologies such as JavaScript frameworks.
