About the Role
Join us as the Director of Creative Advocacy and Partnerships at The AjA Project, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to arts and social justice. This role is ideal for someone passionate about advocacy, community engagement, and the transformative power of storytelling. As the Director of Creative Advocacy and Partnerships, you will work closely with local coalitions and marginalized communities to amplify their voices through participatory arts. This position is not remote and requires presence in San Diego, California.
What You'll Do
- Engage in coalition building with local organizations, including TRUST SD, to inform and enhance advocacy efforts.
- Analyze policies and technologies impacting local communities, developing creative advocacy responses to address these challenges.
- Facilitate community engagement through town halls, oral history sharing, and public participatory art initiatives.
- Collaborate with program staff to integrate advocacy activities into existing AjA programming.
- Translate complex advocacy messages into accessible public-facing materials, including social media content and infographics.
Requirements
- PhD in humanities or interpretive social sciences.
- Strong communication skills to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.
- Experience in project management and the ability to balance multiple priorities.
- Alignment with AjA’s values of equity and cultural humility.
- Commitment to community-engaged research and advocacy.
Nice to Have
- Experience with community-based organizations and advocacy groups.
- Familiarity with immigrant and refugee rights issues.
- Proficiency in qualitative research methods.

- Relevant linguistic skills in languages such as Spanish or Arabic.

Who Will Succeed Here

Demonstrated experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative research methods to inform advocacy strategies, with a mindset geared towards using data to drive social change.
