Assistant General Counsel - Capital Markets Legal (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel - Capital Markets Legal (Remote) to join our innovative team at Upstart. As a pioneering AI lending marketplace, Upstart collaborates with banks and credit unions to enhance access to affordable credit. This role offers the opportunity to work remotely from anywhere in the U.S., contributing to our mission of facilitating effortless credit access based on true risk assessment.

What You'll Do

• Work closely with various teams including product, operations, compliance, accounting, tax, treasury, and finance to manage legal aspects of capital markets transactions.
• Structure securitization transactions in partnership with Upstart’s capital markets team.
• Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of transactional documents, ensuring compliance and risk management.
• Influence and collaborate with colleagues outside the legal team to drive successful outcomes.
• Manage a team of five attorneys, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
• Create and implement internal education programs on legal risks associated with capital markets.

Requirements

• J.D. degree with solid academic credentials.
• A minimum of 12 years of experience in structured finance or a related field.
• Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex legal documents.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Team player with prior management experience and a desire to develop expertise in new areas of law.
