Senior Software Engineer - React SDK for Small Business Solutions

About the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Software Engineer - React SDK to join our growing team at Gusto. In this role, you will be instrumental in building reusable frontend components that empower our partners to manage payroll and other critical workflows directly on our platform. This Senior Software Engineer remote position allows you to work closely with backend teams and contribute to the evolution of our SDK.

What You'll Do

• Design and develop scalable React + TypeScript components used across multiple areas of the Gusto platform.
• Own technical initiatives from design through delivery, ensuring high-quality standards.
• Collaborate with backend engineers to define clear, maintainable contracts between services and the SDK layer.
• Support partner feature development and migrations from legacy integrations to modern SDK interfaces.
• Raise SDK quality standards across testing, localization (i18n), accessibility (a11y), and developer experience.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve code quality and explore innovative building methods.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional frontend or platform engineering experience, with strong proficiency in React and advanced TypeScript.
• Experience building scalable, reusable systems such as SDKs or component libraries.
• Strong understanding of frontend-backend integration patterns.
• Practical experience implementing localization, accessibility, and high-quality testing standards.
• Ability to operate effectively in evolving systems and make thoughtful abstraction decisions.
• Experience in payroll, HR tech, or fintech is a strong plus.
