About the Role
Hippo is recruiting Senior Java Developers to join our Hippo Herd. As a Senior Java Developer, you will work in multi-disciplinary teams that build, support, and maintain user-centered digital solutions that offer real value and work for everyone. This Senior Java Developer remote position is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative projects while enjoying the flexibility of remote work.
What You'll Do
- Act as a technical SME within the squad to produce user-centered software based on business requirements and best practices.
- Collaborate with colleagues to explore, design, and deliver solutions to client problems.
- Design and manage software development and deployment pipelines, resolving issues and potential bottlenecks proactively.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, presenting prototypes, solutions, and progress clearly and concisely.
- Build strong relationships with your team and stakeholders, ensuring challenges are overcome.
- Participate in the recruitment of other engineers and support their professional development.
- Promote Hippo’s Engineering Herd externally through writing blogs, workshops, seminars, or conferences.
Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to articulate technical and non-technical concepts depending on the audience.
- Experience in the full development lifecycle delivering user-centered digital solutions.
- Proficiency as a full stack developer using core Java, CXF, Spring Boot, Jetty, Mustache, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Familiarity with JavaScript libraries and frameworks such as Node, React, or Angular is preferable.
- Containerization experience with Docker or Kubernetes.
- Experience in microservices design and architecture.
- Knowledge of RESTful API services.
- Experience working within agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Kotlin is highly desirable.
- Previous experience working on GOV/NHS projects would be a plus.
