Senior Data Engineer - Data Platform for Crypto

About the Role

We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer - Data Platform to join our innovative team at Kraken. As a fully remote company, we are looking for talented individuals who are passionate about building scalable data systems in the exciting world of cryptocurrency. In this role, you will play a crucial part in shaping the future of our data ecosystem, ensuring that our data infrastructure is reliable and scalable.

What You'll Do

• Build scalable and reliable data pipelines that collect, transform, load, and curate data from internal systems.
• Augment the data platform with data pipelines from external systems, ensuring high data quality and auditability.
• Drive data systems to be as near real-time as possible, enhancing the accessibility of data for analytics and machine learning.
• Support the design and deployment of a distributed data store that serves as the central source of truth across the organization.
• Develop data connections to the company's internal IT systems and customize self-service tools for data consumers.
• Evaluate new technologies and build prototypes for continuous improvements in data engineering.

Requirements

• 5+ years of work experience in a relevant field such as Data Engineering, DWH Engineering, or Software Engineering.
• Experience with data-lake and data-warehousing technologies, including Presto, Athena, and Glue.
• Proficiency in at least one of the main programming languages used: Python or Scala, with additional programming languages being a plus.
• Experience building data pipelines/ETL in Airflow and familiarity with software design principles.
• Excellent SQL and data manipulation skills using frameworks like Spark/PySpark.
• Expertise in Apache Spark or similar Big Data technologies, with a proven record of processing high volumes of datasets.
• Experience with business requirements gathering for data sourcing.
• Bonus: Familiarity with Kafka and other streaming technologies like Apache Flink.

Nice to Have

• Experience in the cryptocurrency or blockchain space.
• Knowledge of data governance and compliance standards.
• Familiarity with machine learning concepts and applications.
