About the Role

Join our customer’s team as a Rust Developer - AI Expert (Remote) and play a key role in building scalable backend systems while helping shape the future of AI-powered developer tools. This high-impact, remote position combines hands-on API development with real-world AI model evaluation in live coding environments. As a Rust Developer, you will be integral to our mission of innovating developer workflows through AI integration.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and optimize RESTful and GraphQL APIs using Rust.
  • Implement strong data validation, error handling, and security best practices across backend services.
  • Plan and execute database migrations, schema updates, and performance optimizations.
  • Test cutting-edge AI coding models in Cursor, documenting findings through incident reports, bug traces, and screenshots.
  • Participate in focused 4-day testing sprints, evaluating AI impact on real-world development workflows.
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers via Slack to provide actionable product feedback.
  • Submit detailed post-testing evaluations covering usability, model behavior, and performance gaps.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional backend development experience with strong Rust expertise.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining REST and GraphQL APIs.
  • Advanced understanding of API security, validation patterns, and error handling strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with database design, migrations, and performance tuning.
  • Active use of AI coding tools; familiarity with Cursor is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in structured bug reporting.
  • Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, remote, and confidential environments.

  • Notable open-source contributions (GitHub repositories, community involvement).
  • Experience evaluating or designing experimental developer tooling.
