Research Nurse/Midwife - Remote Opportunity
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Research Nurse/Midwife to join our team at the University of Sheffield. This remote Research Nurse/Midwife position plays a crucial role in supporting a study focused on blood and placental markers of preterm birth. You will work closely with academic researchers and NHS clinical teams to ensure high-quality, ethical research delivery and a positive participant experience.
What You'll Do
- Identify eligible participants within antenatal and maternity settings and provide clear, sensitive information about the study.
- Obtain informed consent in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and study protocols.
- Coordinate the collection of blood samples and placental tissue, ensuring accurate documentation and data entry.
- Liaise with obstetric, midwifery, and laboratory teams to ensure smooth study delivery.
- Monitor recruitment targets and contribute to problem-solving to maximize recruitment during relevant seasonal periods.
- Maintain participant confidentiality and support study follow-up where required.
- Contribute to ethics and governance compliance, assisting with reporting to the research team.
- Attend multi-disciplinary research team meetings and appropriate clinics to screen and recruit new study participants.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse/Midwife with current NMC registration and relevant clinical experience in maternity care.
- Experience in clinical research, participant recruitment, or consent-taking is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and research governance within a clinical setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex research information clearly.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Professional, compassionate, and participant-centered approach to care and research.
- Ability to work flexibly to meet study recruitment needs, including during warmer months when recruitment activity is highest.
Nice to Have
- Experience in developing Patient Participation and Involvement (PPI) in research.
- Understanding of safeguarding, consent, and confidentiality in maternity care.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with clinical, academic, and laboratory staff.
