What You'll Do

  • Carry and place track materials using standard railroad maintenance tools.
  • Install railroad tracks and embankments, including special track work and road crossing signage.
  • Perform railroad track maintenance and construction activities, such as changing rails and ties, building track, and adjusting switches.
  • Operate picks, shovels, and spike mauls for extended periods.
  • Utilize specialized hydraulic and air railroad power tools effectively.
  • Respond to after-hours and weekend callouts to repair tracks in case of derailments.
  • Assist in re-railing train cars as needed.
  • Adhere to company and federal safety rules, wearing required safety equipment and addressing safety concerns promptly.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Pass all required assessments and trainings, including background checks and drug screenings.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, along with experience in the railroad or heavy construction industry.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites, including overnight stays and short notice mobilization.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and precipitation.
  • Strong communication skills to follow verbal and visual instructions and respond to signals and warnings.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently when necessary.
  • Physical capability to lift and move up to 100 pounds and perform various physical tasks.
