Mid-Senior Software Engineer - AI Safety Systems

About the Role

We are seeking a Mid-Senior Software Engineer to join our Safeguards Team at Anthropic. This Software Engineer remote position is pivotal in ensuring the safety and reliability of our AI systems. You will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to creating interpretable and steerable AI systems that prioritize user well-being and societal benefit.

What You'll Do

• Develop foundational systems for safety, oversight, and intervention mechanisms in AI, focusing on monitoring models and preventing misuse.
• Build robust infrastructure for data storage and management, ensuring high operational standards for safety and customer service.
• Implement multi-layered defenses that enhance real-time safety mechanisms, reducing the need for human intervention.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to uphold principles of safety, transparency, and oversight in AI systems.
• Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 4-10+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in roles focused on safety and oversight.
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with TypeScript or Rust.
• Experience in building trust and safety mechanisms for AI/ML systems.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Nice to Have

• Experience with fraud detection and mitigation mechanisms in AI systems.
• Familiarity with metrics and measurement systems for data management.
• Previous collaboration with operational teams to develop internal tooling.
• Experience with Claude Code or similar coding tools.
