Lead Data Scientist - Remote Position in Geo-Analytics
About the Role
We're hiring a Lead Data Scientist to join our team remotely, focusing on Property Catastrophe Modeling & Geo-Analytics. In this role, you will lead a team dedicated to leveraging data and statistical models to drive business solutions and identify opportunities. Your expertise in data science will be crucial in shaping our analytical initiatives.
What You'll Do
- Direct analytical initiatives, leveraging data, statistical modeling, and machine learning to drive process improvements and decision-making.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers and product leaders, to implement effective business solutions.
- Lead discussions, present findings, and make recommendations to colleagues and management.
- Establish and oversee monitoring procedures, review results, and identify further optimization opportunities.
- Provide analytical support and facilitate solution implementation through business or IT processes.
- Create and optimize data repositories, reports, dashboards, and automated procedures to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Mentor a small team of data scientists, providing technical expertise and guidance.
- Run day-to-day execution, code/design reviews, and onboarding for new team members.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in math, statistics, computer science, or related areas; Master's degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in data mining and data/statistical analysis.
- Proficient in SQL and statistical software packages (Python, R, SAS).
- Experience in P&C insurance is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with large structured and unstructured data sources.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to think conceptually, analytically, and creatively.
- Knowledge of cloud-based data environments, particularly AWS.
Nice to Have
- Experience with text mining or other text analytics techniques.
- Familiarity with GitHub or other cloud-based infrastructure.
- Experience leading projects in group settings and mentoring peers/interns.
