About the Role

Join JetBrains as the Head of Prototyping in our InnovationHub Tech Track. This remote role allows you to lead a passionate team dedicated to creating innovative developer tools. As the Head of Prototyping, you will be at the forefront of exploring experimental product directions, shaping the future of technology.

What You'll Do

• Lead the design, prototyping, and validation of bold new product concepts.
• Collaborate directly with C-level management to determine project viability and market timing.
• Build and manage a small, senior team of engineers and designers.
• Own projects from early prototype stages to launch or integration into existing teams.
• Implement short, iterative cycles with demo days and prioritize effectively to retire weak concepts swiftly.
• Enhance visibility through blog posts, talks, and technical previews.

Requirements

• Recent experience as a Principal Engineer, Staff Engineer, Senior Staff Engineer, or similar in a dev-tool or product-focused software company.
• Proven track record of shipping zero to one products or high-impact prototypes.
• Broad technical knowledge across backend, frontend, infrastructure, and ML/AI.
• Strong product sense with the ability to identify promising directions before market validation.
• Hands-on engineering experience with daily coding practices.
• Comfortable hiring, coaching, and leading senior engineers.
• Excellent communication skills for both technical peers and executives.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguity, small teams, and high-pressure cycles.

Nice to Have

• Experience with public prototypes, OSS projects, patents, or conference talks.
• Background in AI/ML, developer tools, or emerging tech R&D teams.
• History of working on special projects or advanced technology.
