External Contractor – Mentor Role for Software Architect Track

About the Role

Udacity is seeking an External Contractor – Mentor for the Software Architect track to join our mission of forging futures in tech through radical talent transformation in digital technologies. As a mentor, you will provide world-class technical support to our learners, guiding them through their Nanodegree journey. This is a fantastic opportunity to work remotely while contributing to a vibrant, international student community.

What You'll Do

• Provide technical support for students over an online community forum.
• Answer questions around course content and facilitate assistance for students who encounter challenges in their learning.
• Host one weekly live virtual session to offer direct, real-time support to students.
• Redirect learners to appropriate support channels and escalate issues to the Mentor Operations team when necessary.
• Foster a positive learning environment, creating emotional ties with students and ensuring a #studentfirst approach.

Requirements

• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
• At least 7 years of industry experience or a master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Strong expertise in Test-Driven Development (TDD), including Pytest and scalable test strategies.
• Deep understanding of design patterns and their practical implementation in production systems.
• Proven experience designing microservices and cloud-native architectures.
• Ability to create and interpret architecture diagrams and system design documentation.
• Experience with architectural frameworks such as TOGAF or Zachman.
• Experience teaching technical concepts and organizing technical talks or webinars.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with distributed systems and machine learning system architectures.
• Solid grounding in systems engineering principles.
