About the Role

We're seeking a Team Leader Environmental Health Response to join Auckland Council in a remote capacity. This role is pivotal in leading a high-impact team dedicated to protecting the health and wellbeing of Aucklanders every day.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a high-performing team across food safety, public health, hazardous substances, and noise control.
  • Drive strategic public health initiatives that reduce risk and improve community outcomes.
  • Ensure all work aligns with good regulatory practice and a risk-based regulating approach.
  • Manage budgets and resources to deliver efficient, effective services.
  • Provide expert guidance on complex environmental health issues and escalations.
  • Champion cross-council collaboration and strengthen Auckland Council’s reputation.
  • Uphold legislative compliance, including the Food Act, Health Act, RMA, and more.

Requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in environmental health (or equivalent under the 1993 Regulations).
  • 5+ years’ experience in environmental health or a related field.
  • 3+ years’ leadership experience in an Environmental Health or similar environment.
  • Strong legislative knowledge and the ability to interpret and apply it confidently.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga, and working within Māori paradigms.
  • A current NZ driver licence.
