Social Studies Teacher - Remote Opportunity
About the Role
We are excited to announce a remote opportunity for a Social Studies Teacher at Bishop O'Dowd High School for the 2026 - 2027 academic year. This role is designed for passionate educators who are committed to fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment. As a Social Studies Teacher remote, you will be responsible for teaching high school social studies, including AP courses in government and economics, while collaborating with a diverse community.
What You'll Do
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lesson plans that facilitate active learning and align with school standards.
- Utilize educational technology to enhance classroom instruction and student learning.
- Observe and evaluate student progress, using data to differentiate instruction and adjust teaching strategies.
- Participate in department, school, and parent meetings, as well as relevant professional development.
- Foster strong relationships with students and colleagues to create a supportive learning environment.
- Articulate and promote equity and justice work, as well as anti-bias and anti-racist teaching practices.
- Provide accommodations for students with learning differences and maintain accurate records on student progress.
- Collaborate with counselors to ensure whole-student support and success.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field is required; a master's degree and relevant teaching credentials are preferred.
- Demonstrated passion for social studies education and a commitment to helping all students reach their full potential.
- Experience teaching AP or IB courses is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching and social-emotional learning.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to foster a safe, inclusive, and equitable learning environment.
- Proven success in collaborating with colleagues and innovating teaching practices.
- Openness to feedback and a drive for professional growth.
Nice to Have
- Experience with educational technology tools.
- Knowledge of restorative practices in education.
- Background in Catholic education or a commitment to the Catholic mission.
