Senior Systems Engineer - European Sovereign Cloud

About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team at Haystack. This Senior Systems Engineer remote position is pivotal as we collaborate with Amazon Web Services to build and lead operations for the new European Sovereign Cloud. This initiative aims to deliver high-availability AWS services exclusively for EU customers, and your expertise will help shape the future of cloud computing in Europe.

What You'll Do

• Oversee the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) in 2025.
• Collaborate with global AWS teams to influence service evolution and technology.
• Enhance day-to-day operations and improve availability, reliability, and performance of the ESC.
• Work with foundational services like EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock.
• Identify anomalies, craft bug reports, and address operational backlog for systems.
• Participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents and ensure system resilience.

Requirements

• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Must be a national of an EU member state and resident in the EU.
• Expertise in systems engineering (hardware, software, networking, operating systems).
• Experience scripting processes in Bash, Python, or Ruby.
• Solid understanding of Linux and networking for troubleshooting software systems.
• Ability to lead the creation and improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs).

Nice to Have

• Experience with cloud infrastructure management.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of security best practices in cloud environments.
