About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Solicitor remote to join our dynamic team at the Department of Transport and Planning. As a Senior Solicitor, you will be a technical legal specialist who assesses and resolves complex, high-risk land title matters. Your expertise will provide essential statutory interpretation and advice to protect the integrity of the land titles register and avoid litigation. This role is crucial in contributing to regulatory frameworks, policy and process improvement, guidance development, and capability building, thereby underpinning confidence in Victoria’s multibillion-dollar property market through lawful, consistent outcomes.

What You'll Do

  • Provide expert legal advice and statutory interpretation in land title matters.
  • Lead the adaptation and application of legal concepts to operational matters.
  • Coordinate and deliver legal advice with minimal guidance, including supervising external legal services.
  • Interpret and apply business plans and policies within your area of responsibility.
  • Contribute to the development of regulatory frameworks and policy improvements.

Requirements

  • Qualification in Law and admission or eligibility for admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria (mandatory).
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation including the Electronic Conveyancing National Law (Victoria), Transfer of Land Act 1958, and associated acts (desirable).
  • 3+ years of post-admission experience in a legal role (desirable).
  • Strong analytical skills and innovative thinking to influence developments within your area of responsibility.
  • Ability to provide leadership in the application of legal concepts to operational matters.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in electronic conveyancing and related legal frameworks.
  • Previous experience in a government or regulatory environment.
