This Senior Software Engineer - Compiler remote position focuses on transforming user-driven spreadsheet interactions into optimized SQL queries, ensuring seamless analytics on cloud data warehouses.
What You'll Do
- Address core challenges at the intersection of data modeling, query compilation, and large-scale interactive analytics, enabling users to efficiently query data warehouses without deep technical knowledge.
- Design, build, and maintain sophisticated compiler infrastructure that translates spreadsheet operations into optimized query plans.
- Apply advanced optimization strategies to enhance performance and accuracy across diverse query workloads and data architectures.
- Contribute to backend development using Rust and frontend foundations with TypeScript, evolving critical abstractions for end-to-end workflow optimizations.
- Debug, analyze, and resolve complex issues to ensure robustness and maintainability in a rapidly evolving product.
- Collaborate with engineers and product stakeholders to review designs and code, driving technical best practices and architectural decisions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience engineering high-quality software systems.
- Demonstrated success in building and maintaining complex infrastructure or core platform services.
- Deep understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, particularly in compilers, algorithms, and SQL optimization.
- Passion for teamwork, technical ownership, and continually raising the engineering bar.
- Experience working in an iterative, high-cadence environment.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to distributed systems, query optimization, or database internals.
- Experience with API or data model design in high-performance cloud services.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure).
- A curiosity for new languages and tools, and a drive to solve challenging problems at scale (Rust, Go, Node, K8s, GraphQL).
