Senior R&D Systems Engineer - Nuclear Deterrence
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior R&D Systems Engineer to join our W80-5 Systems Engineering Team at Sandia National Laboratories. This role is pivotal in supporting the design, integration, and qualification of systems critical to national security. As a Senior R&D Systems Engineer, you will be part of a high-performing team that directly contributes to the Nuclear Deterrence Mission. The position requires onsite work at our facilities in the United States, ensuring you are closely integrated with our dynamic team.
What You'll Do
- Lead technical design reviews and programmatic meetings, presenting findings and strategies to stakeholders.
- Coordinate with various departments to establish the W80-5 surveillance strategy, ensuring alignment with national security objectives.
- Utilize analytical thinking to navigate complex, ambiguous problems in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Conduct trade studies and make key decisions based on performance data, cost, and schedule constraints.
- Engage with key individuals across the W80-5 program, NNSA, and partner Design Agency Labs to foster collaboration and innovation.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline and a minimum of five years of directly relevant experience.
- Active DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent security clearance from another U.S. government agency.
- Demonstrated experience in engineering design, qualification, and production processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in developing positive relationships with stakeholders, customers, and external partners.
Nice to Have
- Graduate degree in Engineering or a highly related field with an independent research project requirement.
- Experience with Nuclear Security Enterprise laboratories and plants.
- Advanced knowledge of systems engineering processes and methodologies.

Who Will Succeed Here
Proficiency in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering principles, specifically in the design and integration of complex systems used in nuclear deterrence applications, such as weapons systems or military technology.
