Senior Data Scientist - Machine Learning Focus (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our dynamic team at Risk Ident, where you will play a crucial role in combating fraud for our enterprise clients. As a Senior Data Scientist (Machine Learning), you will leverage your expertise in data analysis and machine learning to enhance our fraud detection capabilities. This Senior Data Scientist remote position allows you to work from anywhere while contributing to impactful projects that directly influence our clients' success.

What You'll Do

  • Analyze large datasets for fraud indicators, improving our machine learning models to enhance fraud detection.
  • Collaborate with clients, developers, and management to discuss your findings in both English and German.
  • Develop reusable functions for our Python/PySpark toolkit in Databricks in collaboration with our Data Engineers.
  • Enhance our risk-scoring pipeline through feature engineering, sampling strategies, model types, evaluation metrics, explainability, and anomaly detection.
  • Support the development of our products, FRIDA and DEVICE IDENT, through data analysis.
  • Experiment with the latest data science trends during our regular "Innovation Days" to integrate new techniques into fraud prevention.

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of machine learning concepts, processes, and algorithms.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in data-driven teams in business or research.
  • Strong programming skills, ideally in Python/PySpark, to work efficiently with large datasets and contribute to the codebase.
  • Structured and thorough work approach with a high degree of self-organization.
  • Clear and effective communication skills in both written and spoken forms.
  • Strong presentation skills for diverse audiences.
  • Excellent English proficiency for our international team and very good German skills for client interactions.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to our Hamburg office.
  • A sense of humor and openness to new ideas.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in analysis projects with regular client contact.
  • Experience in software development using agile methodologies.
  • Advanced knowledge in machine learning (e.g., xgboost, logistic regression) and generative AI applications (e.g., LLM, RAG).
  • PhD in a quantitative field.
  • Deep knowledge of technologies such as Databricks, Python, (Py)Spark, Scala, H2O, scikit-learn, Bash, git, SQL, HTML/JS.
  • Advanced data visualization skills (e.g., Plotly, Dash, D3, ggplot).
  • Passion for "data storytelling" at public events.
  • Proven experience handling sensitive and confidential data.
