About the Role
Spry Methods is seeking a Remote Senior Enterprise Middleware Engineer to support the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Office of Contracting & Procurement (OCP). This role is pivotal in sustaining and modernizing enterprise middleware environments, focusing on IBM WebSphere Application Server, IBM MQ, and Oracle-based applications. As a Remote Senior Enterprise Middleware Engineer, you will play a key role in the transition from AIX-based platforms to Azure-hosted Linux environments, ensuring the integrity and performance of mission-critical procurement and financial systems.
What You'll Do
- Provide senior-level engineering support for enterprise procurement and financial applications, including PRISM and Oracle-based systems.
- Administer and support IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) and IBM MQ across enterprise environments, deploying and maintaining workloads on Linux-based platforms.
- Lead efforts in migrating enterprise middleware and applications from AIX to Linux-based cloud environments, identifying risks and contributing to migration planning.
- Support Oracle-based enterprise applications and databases, developing PL/SQL packages and ensuring reliable integration with financial workflows.
- Collaborate with cloud, DevOps, and security teams to support CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation related to middleware deployments.
- Ensure compliance with FedRAMP, FISMA, and NIST security requirements, supporting security assessments and audits.
- Document engineering processes, create operational runbooks, and provide senior-level recommendations to stakeholders.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and change control processes to enhance project delivery.
Requirements
- Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain one.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience supporting enterprise applications and middleware environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM WebSphere Application Server and IBM MQ in production.
- Experience with enterprise Java EE / Jakarta EE applications and integrations.
- Working knowledge of Oracle databases and PL/SQL.
- Strong Linux administration skills and experience in hybrid or cloud-hosted environments.
- Scripting experience with Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
Nice to Have
- Experience with PRISM or other large-scale federal procurement systems.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Terraform, or CI/CD automation.
- Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes in middleware contexts.
- Strong communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.

Who Will Succeed Here
