About the Role

We are seeking a Remote Proposal Policy Review Specialist to join our team at Global Fishing Watch. This role focuses on analyzing Brazil's vessel data reporting obligations to enhance ocean governance and support sustainable fisheries management. As a Remote Proposal Policy Review Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring that fishing vessel registry data is accurate and compliant with international standards.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct a comprehensive review of Brazil's existing legal and regulatory frameworks governing fishing vessel registry data.
  • Analyze obligations at the national level and commitments at regional and international levels.
  • Collaborate with Brazilian authorities to develop interoperability solutions for vessel data management.
  • Provide insights into the challenges and opportunities surrounding vessel data sharing policies.
  • Support the development of a vessel information sharing tool to streamline data submissions to Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs).

Requirements

  • Proven experience in policy analysis, particularly in the context of fisheries management or marine governance.
  • Strong understanding of legal frameworks related to data collection and sharing.
  • Experience working with international organizations or governmental bodies is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
