Remote Engineering Manager - Delivery for Modernization Platform

About the Role

We're hiring a Remote Engineering Manager - Delivery to lead our modernization efforts at Mechanical Orchard. In this role, you will work hands-on with your team while also focusing on their growth and performance. You'll be instrumental in delivering customer outcomes using our Imogen platform, which modernizes critical business applications.

What You'll Do

• Use Imogen to modernize production mainframe systems in collaboration with customers and partners.
• Contribute as a core member of a cross-functional XP team, applying practices such as TDD, refactoring, and CI/CD.
• Lead and facilitate technical discovery sessions and workshops with customers and partners to shape delivery approaches.
• Experiment with LLM-assisted coding tools, helping define best practices for AI use in software engineering.
• Design, operate, and support production systems with a focus on durability and operability.
• Manage and support a team of engineers, including performance management and career development.
• Foster a healthy, inclusive team environment with clear expectations and accountability.
• Collaborate across time zones and travel to customer sites as needed.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or similar role.
• Strong technical background in software engineering and modernization practices.
• Experience with legacy systems, particularly mainframe technologies like COBOL and JCL.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
• Ability to balance delivery leadership with people management.
• Experience in client-facing roles and high-stakes conversations.
• Enthusiasm for AI-assisted development tools.
