Remote Director of Tax Operations - Global Tax Strategy

About the Role

Join Whatnot as a Remote Director of Tax Operations and lead our global tax strategy. This role is pivotal in shaping our tax compliance and provision processes, ensuring we maintain our status as a leader in the e-commerce space. You will work closely with internal partners to optimize our tax operations and drive efficiency across our international model.

What You'll Do

• Own the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual tax provision in compliance with ASC 740, FIN 18, IFRS, and other related standards.
• Manage all aspects of global income tax reporting, including deferred tax assets/liabilities and effective tax rate calculations.
• Oversee the preparation and filing of federal and state income tax returns.
• Drive R&D tax credit studies and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
• Lead tax aspects of M&A and other strategic transactions, including tax due diligence and integration planning.
• Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory changes affecting tax positions.
• Implement tax technology tools for greater efficiency and accuracy in tax operations.
• Represent the tax team in discussions with external auditors and relevant authorities.

Requirements

• 12+ years of progressive tax experience, with expertise in ASC 740, R&D tax credits, and transfer pricing.
• Background in public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and corporate income tax in a multinational technology company.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and/or MST strongly preferred.
• Expert-level knowledge of U.S. GAAP and international tax principles.
• Proven track record of process improvement and using tax technology to drive efficiencies.
• Strong leadership skills with a focus on developing talent and fostering cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
