Power Systems Engineer - Advanced Analytics
About the Role
We are seeking a Power Systems Engineer for Advanced Analytics to join our team at Electric Power Group (EPG). This position is based in Pasadena, California, and focuses on developing advanced analytics software solutions to address real-world challenges in the electric power industry. As a Power Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our software solutions effectively meet the needs of utility and grid operator customers.
What You'll Do
- Develop and enhance algorithms for real-world problems in oscillation and modal analysis, inertia monitoring, and dynamic alarming.
- Execute tests to identify inconsistencies in engineering algorithms and provide solutions.
- Investigate results to determine root causes and make engineering recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborate with engineers and software development teams to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Maintain engineering design and testing documentation to ensure clarity and consistency.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to management and key stakeholders regarding project updates and findings.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, or a related technical field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on power flow simulations and contingency analysis.
- Experience with RMS domain and EMT simulation tools such as PSSE, PSCAD, and MATLAB.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or C#.
- Experience in data-driven analytics and AI/ML algorithms.
- Excellent communication skills to present complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining thorough documentation.
Nice to Have
- Experience in WAMS technology and advanced statistical signal processing analytics.
- Experience in software development, including building prototype models and real-time dashboards.
