About the Role
Join OpenBet as an Operations Support Engineer in a remote capacity, where you will play a crucial role in supporting, debugging, and enhancing the functionality of our high-availability production systems. What You'll Do
- Own and investigate a wide variety of production issues at both the application and database level.
- Produce robust, well-written solutions for production issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Effectively communicate investigation statuses to customers, maintaining transparency and trust.
- Deploy fixes to production environments, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Escalate issues to senior team members as appropriate to resolve complex problems.
- Assist in creating and maintaining support documentation, including FAQs, knowledge base articles, and troubleshooting guides.
- Participate in a rota schedule, which includes working on weekends and bank holidays.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a traditional science subject, ideally computer science, engineering, or information systems.
- 2-3 years of experience in an application support role, demonstrating technical investigation skills and solution creation.
- Hands-on experience in at least one major programming language (Java, J2EE, C, C++, Python, PHP) and SQL queries.
- Strong fundamental programming skills, including data structures and algorithms.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and spoken.
- A proven ability to learn new technologies quickly and manage workload effectively.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of Unix/Linux distributions (e.g., Ubuntu, SUSE) and bash shell commands.
- Familiarity with performance monitoring tools (Grafana, Datadog, Squadcast).
- Experience with LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) website design.
- Understanding of web technologies (HTML, HTML5, CSS) and internet protocols (XML, HTTP, TCP/IP).
- Experience using version control systems (GIT, Subversion, CVS).
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl, Python, or JavaScript.
- Familiarity with Jira ticketing system.
