About the Role

The Business and Human Rights Centre is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and well-organised Legal Research Intern to join our Corporate Legal Accountability team. This remote internship opportunity is ideal for applicants currently enrolled at university in legal studies (LLB/LLM/JD or similar) or those with a legal background. You will be integral to our Just Transition Litigation project and will gain valuable experience in legal research and analysis.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct online legal research, finding relevant news, commentaries, reports, and court documents related to lawsuits against companies for alleged human rights and environmental abuses.
  • Support the development of our Just Transition Litigation Tracking Tool by researching relevant just energy transition lawsuits.
  • Draft and update lawsuit profiles, summarising legal information about lawsuits brought against companies to redress human rights abuse.
  • Assist in drafting the CLA Quarterly Update newsletter and participate in its dissemination.
  • Participate in virtual meetings, including fortnightly Global Team meetings with all staff and Regional Researchers.
  • Complete general non-legal tasks as needed, such as supporting our company response mechanism.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in university, studying law or with a legal background.
  • Strong legal analysis and research skills, with academic or work experience in legal research.
  • Excellent general research and analytical skills, with the ability to summarise information clearly.
  • Commitment to human rights and a strong interest in promoting them.
  • Ability to perform routine data input on a daily basis.
  • Excellent English language skills (reading/writing/speaking); fluency in other languages such as French, Spanish, Arabic, or Russian is a plus.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and achieve results.
