Junior Full Stack Developer - AI Solutions for Social Impact

About the Role

We're hiring a Junior Full Stack Developer to join our team at the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation. In this remote role, you will help us build technology that matters, contributing to projects that leverage artificial intelligence and data science for social good.

What You'll Do

• Collaborate with a small, high-trust team to develop cloud-based tools that translate machine learning insights into actionable applications.
• Contribute to the entire development lifecycle, from cloud architecture and backend services to user-facing applications.
• Participate in consultations with nonprofit partners, explaining technical concepts with clarity and empathy.
• Design and develop full-stack applications that integrate AI model predictions into user-friendly interfaces.
• Implement intuitive user interfaces for web and mobile applications, focusing on user needs and challenges in the social sector.
• Engage in cross-functional collaboration to address communication and resource needs related to front-end and mobile development.
• Seek and incorporate feedback through code reviews and pair programming to enhance your skills and confidence.
• Grow your familiarity with cloud infrastructure, deployment workflows, and system design over time.

Requirements

• 1-3 years of professional experience in full-stack development, with expertise in both UI development and backend integration.
• Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and experience with modern front-end frameworks such as React or React Native.
• Strong programming experience with Python or Go is preferred.
• Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and cloud services (e.g., AWS) is required.
• Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a high-performance, startup-like environment.
• Strong organizational skills and a results-oriented mindset.
• Interest in social progress and emerging technologies that advance societal outcomes.

Nice to Have

• Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions) and issue tracking (Jira).
• Familiarity with NoSQL systems (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB) and containerization (e.g., Docker).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform).
