General Counsel - Remote Position

About the Role

We are seeking a General Counsel - Remote to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will provide legal guidance and support to ensure compliance with laws and regulations while protecting the interests of our organization. As a General Counsel - Remote, you will have the opportunity to shape legal strategies and policies that impact our operations and mission.

What You'll Do

• Provide expert legal advice on a variety of issues including corporate governance, compliance, and risk management.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts to ensure favorable terms and compliance with applicable laws.
• Oversee litigation and manage relationships with external legal counsel.
• Conduct legal research and stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that may affect the organization.
• Collaborate with various departments to ensure legal considerations are integrated into strategic planning and decision-making.
• Advise on employment law matters, including compliance with labor regulations and employee relations.
• Support public policy initiatives and advocacy efforts related to our mission.
• Lead training sessions for staff on legal compliance and best practices.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a legal counsel role, preferably in nonprofit or corporate law.
• Strong understanding of legal compliance, risk management, and contract negotiation.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
• Experience in election law and voting rights is a plus.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Membership in good standing with the state bar.

Nice to Have

• Experience in decentralized finance (DeFi) and Web3 legal issues.
• Familiarity with data privacy laws and regulations.
• Previous experience in a nonprofit organization.
