Crossing Guard Rover - Remote Position
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Crossing Guard Rover to join our team in Kitchener, Ontario. In this remote position, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of pedestrians, particularly school children, as they navigate roadways at designated crossing points. Your primary responsibility will be to observe traffic and assist children in crossing safely, making this an essential role in our community.
What You'll Do
- Assist all pedestrians, especially children, in safely crossing roadways and intersections.
- Stop vehicular traffic at designated points, ensuring a safe crossing environment.
- Monitor traffic for gaps and guide children across the roadway while holding a visible "stop" sign.
- Advise children on safe behavior near roadways and report any incidents to your supervisor.
- Train new Crossing Guards and provide re-training as necessary.
- Assist with the distribution of equipment and perform various duties as assigned when not on shift.
- Maintain a strong understanding of pedestrian road safety skills.
- Work in various weather conditions and be prepared for all seasons.
Requirements
- Equivalent to partial secondary school education.
- Up to 3 months of related experience, such as customer service or volunteering.
- Valid MTO G class driver’s license in good standing.
- Access to reliable personal transportation for travel across the City.
- Must live within 30 minutes of Kitchener for quick response.
- Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check at your own expense.
- Willingness to undergo a medical check to ensure fitness for duty.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially with youth.
Nice to Have
- Experience in community service or safety roles.
- Knowledge of local traffic laws and pedestrian safety regulations.
