Associate Director - HV Substations (Remote Opportunity)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Associate Director - HV Substations to join our team at AECOM. This role offers a unique opportunity to work remotely while leading the design and implementation of high voltage (HV) substations for critical infrastructure projects. As an Associate Director, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of energy distribution, ensuring that our projects not only meet client expectations but also contribute to a sustainable future.

What You'll Do

• Lead substation technical discussions with clients and internal teams to establish project scopes and ensure successful delivery.
• Oversee the technical delivery of HV substation projects, ensuring quality and adherence to timelines.
• Utilize your extensive knowledge of the substation project lifecycle to manage client projects effectively.
• Collaborate with project management teams to develop resource forecasts and project schedules.
• Demonstrate commercial awareness by managing project costs and identifying new business opportunities.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring a client-oriented approach in project delivery.
• Promote a safety-first culture in design and project execution.
• Mentor junior staff, enhancing team capabilities and fostering professional growth.

Requirements

• Proven experience in the energy sector, particularly with consultancy, contractors, or utilities.
• Strong client experience with National Grid, SHET, SSE, SPT, or similar entities in the UK or Ireland.
• Expertise in designing HV infrastructure at various project stages, including concept and detailed design.
• In-depth understanding of electrical AC HV plant infrastructure and equipment.
• Familiarity with National Grid standards and specifications.
• Experience in proposal development and leading multi-disciplinary bids.
• Knowledge of control systems, transformers, HVDC systems, and protection & control systems is advantageous.
• Ideally, CDAE / LCDAE approval.

Nice to Have

• Experience with GIS and AIS systems.
• Understanding of secondary system design.
• Previous involvement in large-scale infrastructure projects.
