Windows Systems Administrator - Remote Opportunities Available
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Windows Systems Administrator to join our team at RAND. This position offers the chance to work remotely while being an integral part of our Security & Classified Operations (SCO) department. As a Windows Systems Administrator, you will provide technical expertise in supporting our classified local area network services, ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction and network availability.
What You'll Do
- Assist with software and hardware installations for networked and stand-alone systems.
- Provide network and system performance analysis, monitoring, and reporting.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot network, hardware, and software problems.
- Act as an escalation resource for problem resolution, solving complex technical problems.
- Complete a wide range of systems and network service requests.
- Implement multiple and simultaneous new technology-related initiatives and solutions.
- Configure and maintain Active Directory settings, including Group Policy Objects, DNS, and DHCP.
- Collaborate with other Information Services groups and RAND departments on infrastructure hardware and software systems.
- Adhere to ITIL best practices, including Change Management and Problem Management.
- Prepare for audits from regulatory agencies by accounting for and reporting on technical configurations and controls.
- Support Linux systems, including installation and maintenance of Red Hat Linux (RHEL 8).
Requirements
- Mid-to-Senior level skills in supporting Red Hat Linux environment required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience with Linux and Windows environments.
- Solid skills in DNS, TCP/IP, HTTP, DHCP, server virtualization, and Active Directory.
- Knowledge of security community resources and practices.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Mid-level skills in supporting Windows Servers, SAN & NAS storage, ESX.
Nice to Have
- BA/BS degree preferred.
- Security+ and other key certifications in the area of expertise.

Who Will Succeed Here
Proficiency in managing Windows Server environments, including Active Directory and DNS configurations, with hands-on experience in troubleshooting and optimizing network services.
Strong self-discipline and motivation to work effectively in a fully remote setup, demonstrating excellent time management skills and the ability to stay focused without direct supervision.
Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and knowledge of Linux systems, specifically Red Hat, to facilitate cross-platform integrations and enhance system performance.
