What You'll Do

• Define and lead Upwork’s global payments strategy across a high-velocity, two-sided marketplace.
• Set the vision and long-term strategy for Upwork’s global payments and financial infrastructure.
• Identify and scale global payment partnerships to ensure resilience and customer delight.
• Drive the adoption of AI-powered payment solutions to enhance decision-making.
• Serve as executive sponsor for critical financial partnerships and compliance frameworks.
• Navigate complex regulatory landscapes to keep Upwork ahead of fintech requirements.
• Deliver measurable outcomes tied to transaction costs and success rates.
• Build and mentor a high-performing leadership team within the Payments function.

Requirements

• Proven executive leadership experience in global payments or fintech.
• Deep understanding of financial systems and cross-border payment rails.
• Track record of driving strategic transformation and product portfolio management.
• Proficiency in leveraging AI to optimize financial workflows.
• Ability to influence at all levels and balance strategic vision with execution.
