About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant Supervisor to join our team at the Louisiana SPCA in New Orleans, Louisiana. This essential position is responsible for the day-to-day management and continuous improvement within the Wellness, Spay and Neuter, and Shelter Clinic program. As a Veterinary Assistant Supervisor, you will support the Medical Manager and work collaboratively with the Veterinary Technician Supervisor to ensure the highest quality of care for all patients. This role actively promotes spay and neuter initiatives and educates the public on responsible pet ownership while supporting the LA/SPCA’s mission.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee daily operations of the clinic, ensuring efficient processes and high-quality patient care.
  • Train and develop veterinary assistant staff, providing coaching and feedback to enhance their skills.
  • Identify potential hazards in the workplace and model proper safety practices and protocols.
  • Engage in continuous learning and seek additional medical knowledge to improve team performance.
  • Utilize strong critical thinking skills to identify inefficiencies and recommend solutions.
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing client questions and concerns promptly.
  • Collaborate with team members to present ideas and identify the best solutions for patient care.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all cases and hold difficult conversations regarding performance when necessary.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience as a veterinary technician or assistant required.
  • Previous experience in a training or managerial role preferred.
  • Demonstrated mastery of routine Veterinary Assistant skills, including client communication and animal handling.
  • Ability to assist veterinarians with exam room protocols and surgical procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable learning new software.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment substance screening.
  • Physical ability to lift at least 50 pounds and perform strenuous activities.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with digital radiography procedures.
  • Knowledge of sterilization techniques and safety protocols.
  • Interest in animal husbandry and veterinary medicine.
