Staff Software Engineer - AI-Driven Cloud Solutions

About the Role

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our innovative team at Tekion, where you will play a pivotal role in developing AI-driven backend services. As a Staff Software Engineer remote, you will design and build scalable solutions that enhance customer intelligence and campaign orchestration across the automotive retail sector.

What You'll Do

• Architect Java (Spring Boot 3.x) microservices using hexagonal architecture, defining clean domain cores and port interfaces for persistence.
• Own core domain models and service boundaries end-to-end, from initial design through production operation.
• Build scalable, secure REST APIs and robust Kafka-based event-driven pipelines.
• Design MongoDB document schemas and PostgreSQL relational schemas for high-throughput workloads.
• Implement durable campaign execution workflows using Temporal.
• Establish AI-native integration patterns and identify performance bottlenecks across services.
• Mentor engineers at various levels, setting and raising the engineering bar.

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with a strong track record in Java systems.
• Deep expertise in hexagonal architecture and strong experience with Kafka.
• Proven experience with MongoDB and PostgreSQL, including complex schema design.
• Understanding of distributed systems and AWS services.
• Experience with Elasticsearch and Redis or Aerospike for caching and state management.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Temporal for workflow orchestration.
• Familiarity with Python for AI/ML integration.
• Prior experience building data platforms or AI-native SaaS products.
