Software Engineer - Safeguards Team (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a Software Engineer - Safeguards Team to join our mission at Anthropic, where we aim to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. This remote software engineer position focuses on building foundational safety mechanisms for our AI systems, ensuring user well-being and preventing misuse.

What You'll Do

• Develop foundational systems that power Safeguards, including infrastructure for data storage and management.
• Ensure the operational efficiency of Safeguards systems while maintaining high safety standards.
• Build robust multi-layered defenses for real-time safety mechanism improvements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to monitor models and prevent unwanted behaviors.
• Apply your technical skills to uphold principles of safety, transparency, and oversight.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 4-10+ years of experience in a software engineering role.
• Proficiency in Python and ability to work across the tech stack.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with trust and safety mechanisms for AI/ML systems is a plus.

Nice to Have

• Experience with TypeScript or Rust.
• Familiarity with Claude Code or similar agentic coding tools.
• Background in building metrics and measurement systems.
