Senior Substation Control Systems Engineer - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Substation Control Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team at ESB. This remote opportunity allows you to contribute to a brighter, zero carbon future while working on high voltage transmission and distribution projects. As a Senior Substation Control Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design, integration, and testing of substation control systems for ESB Networks and international clients.

What You'll Do

• Develop bespoke substation control system designs and configurations for ESB Networks.
• Conduct and oversee factory and site acceptance testing across a suite of automation and substation control system products.
• Produce technical specifications, undertake tender evaluations, and complete preliminary designs for substation control systems.
• Integrate and test substation control systems, including ABB MicroSCADA and Siemens SICAM systems.
• Provide technical support to colleagues and clients, ensuring high levels of delivery and client satisfaction.
• Manage performance to meet project delivery dates and commercial performance, controlling costs and contribution margins.
• Undertake rostered on-call support services for ESB Networks' suite of Substation Control Systems.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant experience in a utility or industrial environment.
• Level 8 NFQ qualification or equivalent work experience.
• Strong knowledge of substation control system protocols (IEC 60870-5-101, 103, 104, IEC61850).
• Excellent project management and communication skills.
• Ability to technically mentor junior team members and manage multiple priorities.
• A flexible approach to work and a strong focus on customer service.

Nice to Have

• Experience in control centre SCADA, substation telecommunications, or power system studies.
• Willingness to travel internationally as required.
• Good English verbal and written communication skills.
