Staff Software Engineer - Cloud Networks (Remote)

About the Role

Datadog is looking for a Staff Software Engineer - Cloud Networks to join our team remotely. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain the production network infrastructure that powers everything built on top of our platform across AWS, GCP, Azure, and beyond. As a Staff Software Engineer - Cloud Networks, you will set the technical direction for scaling our multi-region, multi-cloud network footprint while ensuring high reliability and performance.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and operate cloud network infrastructure across AWS, GCP, Azure, and Oracle in a multi-region environment.
• Own connectivity between clouds, customers, and developers, ensuring scalable, secure, and reliable network paths.
• Set clear technical direction for expanding data centers and evolving the network while maintaining stability and performance.
• Improve cross-site and cross-region connectivity patterns to support Datadog’s growing platform needs.
• Lead deep troubleshooting and investigations for latency and connectivity issues, including escalations that may originate from customer support.
• Identify and deliver network-related efficiency and cost-saving opportunities that positively impact business health.

Requirements

• Deep networking expertise and enjoyment of building software, comfortable operating as a strong developer in a networking-heavy domain.
• Experience designing and evolving large-scale networks, including interconnected environments.
• Substantial on-prem networking experience (e.g., routing, configuring and operating network equipment at scale) and/or cloud networking experience (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Comfortable owning ambiguous problems, setting direction, and driving cross-team collaboration, especially with teams distributed across time zones.
• Practical experience operating production infrastructure and responding to incidents, including participating in on-call ownership where applicable.

Nice to Have

• Experience with network automation tools and practices.
• Familiarity with security best practices in cloud networking.
• Knowledge of container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
