About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Microgrid Controls Engineer to join Eaton’s Electrical Engineering Services & Systems division. This remote position allows you to develop innovative microgrid control solutions for customers across North America, focusing on energy savings, greenhouse gas reduction, and enhancing system resilience. You will be part of a dynamic team that values creativity and innovation, with an expected travel commitment of 35% for project execution and system commissioning.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, test, implement, and commission Microgrid Control solutions, integrating Solar Photovoltaic (PV), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and generators.
  • Utilize Automation Controllers, HMIs, Multi-function Protection Relays, and Data Concentrators from major OEMs to create effective solutions.
  • Work independently on assigned project tasks with support from the Program Manager and Microgrid Controls team members.
  • Collaborate with multiple Eaton business groups to ensure timely and budget-compliant project delivery.
  • Create, modify, test, and deploy software for Automation Controllers and HMIs tailored for Microgrid applications.
  • Prepare submittal documentation and engage with customers to discuss project requirements.
  • Provide direction to Electrical Designers to develop project drawings and ensure alignment with design intent.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with systems that are not functioning properly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of 3 years of experience in power distribution controls applications.
  • Strong understanding of Electric Power Systems and Microgrid operations.
  • Familiarity with Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) including PV, BESS, and generators.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
  • Preferred: PE License and knowledge of electrical distribution equipment.
  • Experience with Automation Controller Programming (CODESYS, ladder logic, structured text).
  • Ability to communicate technical topics clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Field experience with electrical distribution systems in commercial and industrial settings.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of Power Monitoring and Control Systems.
  • Experience with SCADA and industrial networks.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC-61850).
